Notes on Work, Energy and Power:

Note 21:

The energy possessed by a body on account of its state of rest or of motion is called mechanical energy.

Note 22:

The energy possessed by a body by virtue of its state of motion is called kinetic energy.

Note 23:

According to work-energy theorem, the work done by a force on a moving body is equal to the increase in its kinetic energy.

Note 24:

Kinetic energy is of three types: translational kinetic energy, rotational kinetic energy and vibrational kinetic energy.

Note 25:

The energy possessed by a body by virtue of its specific position is called potential energy.

Note 26:

Potential energy is of two types: gravitational potential energy due to its changed position and elastic potential energy due to its changed configuration.

Note 27:

Gravitational potential energy U = mgh

Note 28:

Potential energy changes into kinetic energy whenever it is put to use.

Note 29:

The energy possessed by fast moving water is called hydro energy.

Note 30:

The energy radiated out by the Sun is called solar energy.
